To Farm School and back!

The fourth grade GaTE class at Paine spent the last three days and two nights at Camp McDowell, for farm school. I picked Bilal up after school today, obviously tired but very excited. He did not stop talking about his experience until I finally got the exhausted little guy into bed this evening. While he was at Camp, we received a couple of group photographs of the kids and their chaperones via email.

When he came back he was excited to show off his souvenirs. It is definitely great to have him home.

And after Hamza came home, they spent some time in the back yard, trying out the new frisbee. Hamza has been playing a lot of ultimate frisbee lately, and he was trying to instill his technique in Bilal. I think there's still a lot of work to be done, but I did get a smile for the camera from Hamza, and those are rare!

In other news, Hamza really has something to smile about. He received his acceptance letter today from the University of Alabama's Engineering School. One down, two to go, before he has to make up his mind where he will be going to school next year. We are very proud of all the effort he has put into his studies over the past four years!

Nine years!

It's been nine years today since Bilal had open heart surgery, to repair his heart defects associated with Tetralogy of Fallot.

And from a cardiac standpoint we are blessed that he remains very healthy, with no interventions anticipated in the near future. We are aware that the possibility exists of him needing to have his pulmonary valve replaced some time in the future; a congenital heart defect is never 'fixed', although it can be 'repaired'. But for now his heart function is excellent, and we are thankful to be celebrating another heart anniversary.

Happy heart day, baby boy!

Here to stay?

Today was a gorgeous day, lower humidity and cooler temperatures. The sky was bluer than I've seen it in a while, and with the breeze, there was even a very slight chill in the air. Even though the leaves haven't started changing color, and only yesterday it felt as if the air conditioner was running constantly, are we maybe, just maybe, ready to welcome Fall? The days are already getting shorter, and our walk today was much more pleasant, especially for the dog.

I hope this is a sign of better weather to come!

Last weekend was Labor Day, and we had the nephews over for their second sleepover. It's such a great age, when they can come to stay; Bilal loves the time he spends with them. After an uneventful night, we took them to the Mall the following day. First we visited the video game arcade.

Then a break for lunch,

followed by a ride on the carousel!

What a perfect way to end a fun weekend!
