More about Spring Break

We visited Alligator Adventure at Barefoot Landing.

We had a chance to see lots of alligators and crocodiles for sure.
 Many, many baby alligators!

 A huge one:
But we also saw some other animals. Like these lazy lemurs:
And turtles/ tortoises. (I still get confused about which is which!)
Touching a snake
There were also a couple of Bengal Tigers there.
 And Macaws!

We also had a chance to see Bob, the tailless alligator. The missing tail was actually a birth defect.

Waiting for lunch

We ate at a variety of restaurants while on vacation. One of them actually encouraged you to shell and eat peanuts while waiting to be seated, then while waiting for the orders to be made, and scattered the shells anywhere and everywhere. It rather grossed me out, but didn't seem to bother anyone else, especially Zakir, who willingly participated.

But I admit, the paper tablecloth was quite novel, and the kids entertained themselves for quite a while.
'My dog is very white and fluffy'

Hamza got straight to work. It started simply enough with one math team formula.

And then it expanded.

And then he went rather crazy.

Until there was barely any space left to write on. More math team formulae!

I honestly don't think I have ever seen a child love math this much! Considering it was Spring Break!

Nascar Speedpark

We got home from Myrtle Beach on Friday evening. It wasn't the best homecoming, but more on that later. I still have a lot to share from our vacation. We spent a short while at the Nascar Speedpark while we were there last week. The kids really enjoyed riding the go-karts.

Bilal was too little to ride the real thing by himself

And then we had a little fun in the arcade before we headed out for some outlet shopping.

You can see they are wearing sweaters and sweatshirts. the last couple of days of our vacation were a little chilly, for sure.

Safa's latest creations

Bilal has been asking Safa to design him a pair of shoes as she has done for herself and friends in the past. So when we finally found a pair of white shoes in his size we got them and Safa set to work. Bilal's request was dinosaur shoes, and this is what she came up with:

I think she did a great job. She just has to use a sealant and they will be good to go!

Day 3 at the beach

And we actually made it to the beach! After a chilly, dull morning, and a couple of cool days before that, the sun smiled down on us today. We walked down the Boardwalk and took in the sights of Myrtle Beach, with a cloudy sky and a little chill in the air.

We stopped at Pier 14 for a tasty lunch and some smoothies for the kids.

And we got our first (maybe only) family photo of the trip, compliments of our very nice server.
After lunch we walked out on to the pier, then back up towards the hotel. By then the sky had turned a beautiful shade of blue, the clouds were long gone and it had even warmed up!

So we headed right back out, this time to get a taste of the sand in our toes.

Bilal ventured into the water some, even though it was chilly. But it was just lovely, sitting in the sand for a while, enjoying the gorgeous sun basking down, as the waves were crashing on the beach. Blissful!

Vacationing at the beach

It's a beautiful morning and I am sitting on the balcony of our condo, sipping a cup of tea and enjoying the ocean view with a cool breeze blowing. Spring Break has started, and yesterday we drove to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to enjoy a few days away from home and work. We have come without any fixed plans, but I'm sure we'll find plenty to do, along with lots of down time. Looking forward to a relaxing few days, before we have to head back home, and to the humdrum of everyday life.

Due for a haircut

Or actually, overdue!

I finally managed to take Bilal to get that mop on his head reduced today. Safa also had a trim, but it barely made a difference in the length of her hair. It was such a relief to get all that excess hair off his head!

And did I mention that Bilal pulled out another classmate's tooth a couple of weeks ago? Apparently he really is becoming the class dentist!
