3rd annual health fair

Wow, it's been a busy weekend! This Saturday I drove up to Oneonta to make rounds at the hospital for Zakir, since he had to be at the mosque by 8 am for the health fair. I joined him at the mosque by 10:30 am. This is the third year that the Association of Pakistani Physicians of Alabama and the Birmingham Islamic Society have collaborated to offer free health screenings to anyone in the community, and also offered free flu vaccines to adults and older children. Zakir was the principal coordinator, and Safa brought a number of students from the Beta Club at her school to volunteer their time. Many physicians also volunteered their time; discussing results of cholesterol and blood glucose tests, and counseling one on one with attendees at the health fair. It was a large collaborative effort which led to a very successful health fair. We had approximately fifty people come through for blood work and flu vaccines. There was also a time motion study conducted, which will hopefully help better plan similar programs in the future.
