Why the Award?

As I mentioned in last night's post, Safa was among a total of 100 tenth grade students in Jefferson County who got honored at an event last night. These are a group of students called super scholars. They scored the highest scored in the county based on their PSAT/NMSQT scores (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). For their achievement they were introduced by their principal and recognized by the superintendent of Jefferson County schools, Dr. Hammonds. Safa, and her fellow students were presented with a certificate and a gold pin.

The keynote speakers were a group of medical/dental students who had all graduated from JCIB ten years ago, and all were about to graduate from either medical or dental school. It was a pleasure to listen to these successful young adults who were, only a few years ago, sitting just where the current 10th graders were last night.

After the one hour ceremony we gathered the students together for some photos.

And to end the evening on an even better note, a group of parents took their super scholars out to Yogurt Mountain for frozen yogurt.
