Last day in Las Vegas

On Friday we visited Red Rock Canyon, with the intent to travel the scenic road through part of the Mojave Desert.

First, we stopped at the Visitor's Center.

There was a lot to see, inside the center, and outside.

We actually spent more time than planned, because while we were browsing the exhibits a slew of emergency vehicles drove by on the road. As we tried to take the scenic road we discovered it was blocked by the rangers, because of a climbing accident. The injured person had to be airlifted out of the area, so no vehicles were allowed on the road.

Since we were told the road might be cleared in an hour, we drove into town and had lunch. Before heading back to the canyon we called to inquire about the situation on the road. But it was still blocked, with no estimated time to open it back up again. So we canceled our plans, and drove back to Las Vegas, a little disappointed. We didn't hear anything about the climbing accident on the news, so I'm guessing it wasn't anything serious enough to warrant news coverage.
