Day 7

Hamza has been in Australia for a week, and we have had a chance to speak with him about least every other day. T-Mobile hasn't been cooperating as well as we have wanted it to, but we have been able to text back and forth. So he just texts us his room number, and we can look up the hotel telephone number and call him directly in the room. We usually talk at the end of the day before lights out, and he tends to sound very tired, but full of excited details of the day that he loves to share. It's hard to hear his voice sounding so tired, knowing he's so far away, but I know he's having a great time. And the team leader has been updating us with some details about what is going on too, so that is helpful. Today we hope to be in touch in the morning (there is a 15 hour time difference), so that means 4pm where we live, and maybe we'll hear from a more rested boy.

He was nervous on the morning he left for his trip, but that anxiety all seemed to fade away after he got to the airport and met with all the other children who were going on the trip. I know this has been a wonderful educational opportunity for him. Of course that doesn't make it much easier to handle for Mama!

At the airport, ready to check in

I can't wait until he is back next Wednesday, looking forward to hearing about all the exciting places he has visited.
