The Boosterthon fun run

This morning I went to Hamza's school to help with the Boosterthon fundraiser. So not only did I help serve water and popsicles to an entire grade of students, but I also got to watch Hamza run his 43 laps. It wasn't too hot, but was quite dusty out in the field.

I managed to get a glimpse of Hamza while he was running

The purpose of the fun run is fundraising for the school. The students get a pledge per laps run, then collect the amount based on how many laps they actually completed. It's a great way to raise funds for the school, all the while encouraging some healthy activity.

Tomorrow is the much anticipated Cure for Darfur yard sale at Magnolia Park in Trussville, next to the First Baptist Church on Chalkville Road. The students have managed to acquire a truck load of donated items for the sale. They have spent many hours sorting and pricing the items, and the donated moving truck was loaded up Wednesday after school. We will be out on the field selling items from 4-7pm, although setup will start about 2pm. I hope to see some of my Trussville neighbors there. I am so proud of all the kids' efforts, they have been working together with such enthusiasm and motivation. Of course if you want to know more about what's going on you can always check out this blog, authored by my very own Safa. The students have succeeded in collecting over $200 in donations already.

The popsicle looks yummy! Very fun idea for a fundraiser. I'm glad you were able to be there with Hamza!
