Kids back in the kitchen

We didn't have a single home cooked meal this weekend, at least not freshly cooked by me. That's pretty bad, even for me, considering I don't make a full blown home-cooked meal everyday. However the kids did get a chance to get back in the kitchen with the latest Iron Chef contest, for lunch on Sunday. The secret ingredient? Cucumbers grown in our own back yard. Hamza prepared a colorful salad with lettuce, red and green bell peppers, and of course the cukes, served with his favorite, Ranch dressing, on the side. Safa was a little more creative, and she served club crackers layered with smoked salmon, smoked gouda and cucumber slices, and topped with cherry tomatoes from our veggie patch. Yummy! I've always thought that smoked salmon and cucumbers complement each other very well. Safa won this contest by a landslide, but Hamza is going to be up to the challenge next week. We haven't decided the ingredient yet, but I'm sure it will be just as much fun.

I left home to go to work early again, for the third time in just a few days. Those who know me, can vouch for the fact that I'm really not a morning person, so being at work by 7am has been taking a toll on me. But I can proudly say that for the first time in many, many, many months I am (nearly) caught up with my (electronic) paperwork from the office. It's been like a never ending pile of laundry until now. I aim to have my organizer completely cleared by tomorrow afternoon, so help me God.

Here's a couple more photos of the kids from their portrait session, that I haven't shared until now:

My handsome boys

My princess

And here's Bilal, laughing at a balloon whistling around his head

You can probably tell why I had such a hard time choosing what portraits to get printed. I could have got picked them all. I agonized over the proofs for hours until I finally chose my favorites.

I always just print them all! :) The pics are great. Beautiful kids!

I love that you guys do the Iron Chef home version. This is something I'd love to do as a family. Great idea! And mmmmmmm, the smoked salmon and cucumber thing sounds wonderful!

Sounds like you have a couple of budding chefs on your hands!

I just LOVE the pictures of the kids. Its no wonder you agonized over which ones to have printed.

I feel your pain on the paperwork. When I was still working, we still did the archaic version (on paper) & its seemed to never end!

Hope you get 'caught up' soon!
